Description
Deciduous tree with theight of 20 m and stalk diameter of 40–50 cm. The leaves are bipinnate compound leaves approximately 40 cm in length with 10-20 pinnae and 14-30 pairs of leaflets. Flowers are bluish purple campanulate corolla with panicle and generally bloom before leaf opening. It bears fruit at 8–10 years of age. Deep-rooted species. The cultivation limit is 500–2,400 m above sea level, which is suitable for cultivation in highlands, but young trees are vulnerable to frost. It can be cultivated in areas with annual rainfall of 900–1,300 mm (or more). It prefers sandy loam, but can grow even in barren, shallow soil. It is weak against flooding and clay soil. Propagation is performed by seeding or cutting.
The wood is used for pillars, tool handles, sculptures, etc. It is also planted for sunshade and as a windbreak forest. Crop cultivation under tree is not suitable because it the roots grow deep and have strong water absorption. It was listed as Endangered in the 2014 Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
