Description
Among members of genus Agave, has small seeds and is a small evergreen succulent plant. Leaf width is 12–18 cm and length 25–60 cm. The leaves are few, crenated, light bluish gray, have horizontal stripes and a rough surface. On the edge of the leaf, there are large undulated serrated teeth. The sprouts have clearly attached perpendicular leaves with serrated teeth. It forms a short stalk during maturation. The flower stalk is 1.8–3m. It takes approximately 15 years to bloom. In natural habitat, it can be observed alone or with several new bulbs attached. Propagation is performed by seeding and new bulbs. Is xerotolerant, but has poor moisture tolerance. If drainage is favorable, it is not selective regarding type of soil. It can grow even half shade.
The indigenous peoples used it for food or raw material for of sugar or alcohol.
