International Workshop on Desertification in Mongolia was held.
- Apr., 06, 2026
- Notice
The 17th session of the conference of the parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will be held in Mongolia in August 2026. To review the research on desertification in Mongolia through project-based research - such as the Global COE, Assessment and Control of Dust Emission in Degraded Drylands of East Asia (Project Asian Dust), and Impacts of Climate Change on Drylands (Project ICCxDrylands) - as well as through ALRC joint research, we organized the ALRC Joint Research - Research Meeting "International Workshop on Desertification in Mongolia" (PI: Prof. Shinoda, Nagoya University).
The workshop took place in the ALRC Multipurpose Room from March 23-24 2026 and was co-sponsored by the "Workshop on Dust Research in Tottori 2025" (PI: Prof. Ishizuka, Kagawa University) and IPDRE.
Presentations covered topics such as the causes, impacts, and countermeasures of desertification, including climate change, anthropogenic disturbances, grassland ecosystems, wind erosion, groundwater, grazing strategies, ecosystem restoration, microorganisms, bioaerosols, Asian dust, adverse health effects, disease surveys, and soil carbon sequestration. Inviting three researchers from Mongolia in particular enabled active discussions on topics ranging from fundamental topics related to climate change and desertification atlas to social implementation perspectives.
