The International Platform for Dryland Research and Education, Tottori University has been promoting the "Dune Conservation and Utilization Project" (Project Leader: Dai Nagamatsu) as an interdisciplinary research project. We are pleased to present to you the English book "Tottori Sand Dunes - Nature and history of Japan's most famous coastal dunes-", published by Imai Publishing Co.
This book covers a wide range of topics from the characteristics of the natural environment, technological developments in afforestation and dune farming, history of human involvement, conservation history, and utilization as a tourist resource, as revealed by Tottori University researchers. One of the objectives of this project is to disseminate information on dune lands from Tottori to the international community.
