We held China-Mongolia-Japan Joint Workshop on Aeolian Desertification

On June 20-21, we invited seven researchers from Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources (NIEER, China), Institute of Geography and Geoecology (IGG, Mongolia) and Information and Research Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment (IRIMHE, Mongolia) and we held a tripartite joint workshop on aeolian desertification in the Northeast Asia. In the workshop, there were reports on the current state of aeolian desertification in China and Mongolia, as well as reports on their international collaborative research. We also had reports from an U.S. institute and from Japanese institutes other than Tottori University on their collaborative research with NIEER, IGG and IRIMHE. Based on these reports, discussions were held on our future countermeasures and collaborative research for them. In 2026, Mongolia will host the 17th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (17th COP, UNCCD). We also discussed the efforts to prepare for the meeting.
Please see the workshop program (https://www.alrc.tottori-u.ac.jp/news24/ws-program.pdf) for details.
