Prof. Hisashi Tsujimoto wins the Japan Prize of Agricultural Science and the Yomiuri Agricultural Science Prize

We are pleased to announce that Professor Hisashi Tsujimoto, Director of the Center, has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Japan Prize of Agricultural Science/Yomiuri Agricultural Science Prize.

The Japan Prize of Agricultural Sciences is the highest honor among Japanese agricultural scientists and is awarded by the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies as one of its programs. The Yomiuri Prize for Agricultural Science has continued to this day. The Yomiuri Agricultural Science Prize has been awarded by the Yomiuri Shimbun since 1964 (Showa 39), but the recommendation and selection of winning achievements has been delegated to the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies since that time, with the decision to award the Japan Prize of Agricultural Science made at the selection committee and general meeting in February of each year, and the recommendation to the Yomiuri Agricultural Science Prize.

The reason for Professor Tsujimoto's winning of the prize is "Development of new wheat varieties by introducing genes from wild species and their application to international breeding". The award was conferred in recognition of his achievements.

Upon learning of the award decision, Professor Tsujimoto said, "I have been able to conduct my own unique research with the support of many people. I would like to continue to work hard with the conviction that agricultural science will lead to peace.

The award ceremony is being held in conjunction with the Congress of Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies on April 5 as the Japan Prize of Agricultural Science Awarding Ceremony and the Yomiuri Agricultural Science Prize Awarding Ceremony.
