We accepted Moroccan irrigation engineers this year, too.

From October 16th to 27th, Arid Land Research Center (ALRC) welcomed 10 Moroccans, who engage in O&M operation and maintenance of irrigation facilities. It is entrusted program by JICA Chugoku. The participants not only had lectures from the faculties of ALRC as well as the Department of Agriculture, but also had field visits in Tottori, Shimane, and Hiroshima prefectures. They observed Pear farm in Aoya town, Land Improvement District in Fukube town, Pefectural Horticulture Research Institute in Sakaiminato city, Grape cultivation in Izumo city , and the vegetable farm in Hiroshima city. These field trips made them well understand the agriculture in Japan as well as the water management by farmers.
As the water scarcity becomes serious year by year in Morocco due to less rainfall, organizing water users’ association by farmers is inevitable for disseminating the water-saving technology. So, Moroccans got very much interested in socio-economic aspects of Japanese system, such as Land Improvement District. At every place they with enthusiasm asked many questions to learn the experiences in Japan.
ALRC, in cooperation with JICA Chugoku, continues to accept the participants from the countries in the arid area, where people tackle the issue of water scarcity.
