ALRC accepted irrigation engineers from Morocco

From October 24th to November 2nd, Arid Land Research Center accepted twelve (12) Moroccan irrigation engineers.  JICA Chugoku Center is responsible for the program, “Extension of water-saving irrigation system in Morocco” and actual training has been arranged by the professors of ALRC and Faculty of Agriculture of Tottori University, in the field of irrigation. In ALRC, besides lectures, visiting professor explained his experiment of irrigation.
During the program, the participants visited Tottori Prefectural Experimental Station, located in the reclaimed land of Chukai, and studied the research on leeks. Also, they visited Land Improvement Association in Fukube, which is very famous for the cultivation of scallion. Furthermore, they observed the drip irrigation system of the farmer, who cultivates grapes at the sand dune of Izumo.
Moroccan engineers reported at the final session; “In Japan farmers play a key role in operating and maintaining the irrigation facilities, and we would like to apply such practices as we learned in Tottori, to the situation in Morocco.”
