Case Analysis of International Development Cooperation Projects in Developing Countries, including Central Asia

Education, Research and Social Contribution

13 climate action

I examine the effective development cooperation initiatives, using Central Asia as a case study, a region where I was involved in for many years. Central Asia is in an arid region and gained independence in 1991 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. Since then, the Japanese government supports their nation-building.

[The case of Tajikstan]
Tajikistan, one of these countries, has many development challenges due to the civil war that broke out there in 1992. In the southern region bordering Afghanistan, water supply facilities were outdated, but are gradually upgraded. Thus, it is important to work patiently with a spirit of co-creation.

[Response to Desertification]
Based on the experience of conducting the JICA training on "Coping with Desertification to Strengthen Resilience to Climate Change for Sub-Saharan Africa", I introduce the ODA activities of the Japanese government to students and citizens. Arid Land Research Center of Tottori University is involved in the program through lectures and observation.
