Microbial utilization for ecosystem restoration and sustainable agriculture in arid lands

15 life on land 2 zero hunger 13 climate action

Droughts and heat waves caused by the climate change are expected to increase the severity of land degradation in drylands. Therefore, it is an urgent issue to develop technologies that contribute to the restoration of degraded land ecosystems and sustainable agriculture.

We are focusing on plant-microbe interactions in the following research areas.

  1. Elucidation of environment-plant-microbe interactions in arid regions
  2. Finding of useful plant symbiotic microorganisms under drought stress conditions and their functional mechanisms
  3. Development of a simultaneous evaluation system for useful microorganisms and microbial availability in target degraded areas
  4. Ecological restoration using plant symbiotic microorganisms in arid lands
