Ecosystem Restoration of Desertified Lands

15 life on land 13 climate action

In order to restore ecosystems in desertified lands, we are conducting the following research mainly in the arid lands of East Asia.

  1. Research on revegetation for wind erosion control
We are conducting research on the ecological and physiological characteristics of plants, which are important for wind erosion control, and on afforestation for dune fixation, mainly in China and Mongolia.
  2. Research on revegetation for wind erosion control
We are conducting research on water erosion control mainly in the Loess Plateau in China, focusing on the issue of "the right tree for the right place" in revegetation and the merits and demerits of introducing exotic species in selecting tree species for planting.
  3. Research on revegetation for salinization control
We are conducting research on the ecological and physiological characteristics of halophytes and their use in revegetation, mainly in salt-accumulated areas in China, Central Asia and the United States.
