From Prof. Tsujimoto to whom wants to join our laboratory

The world population of 7 billion approaches 10 billion after 50 years, and considering the meat diet accompanying economic development, twice as many food as this will be needed from now on. On the other hand, frequent occurrence of large-scale drought and flood and outbreak of the pest accompanying global warming is a thread of the stable food production. Especially a dry land is an area where the consistent production of food is difficult, and thus introduction of various agricultural technologies is needed.

In our group, advanced biological technologies such as gene engineering and chromosome engineering, is used, and research which can contribute to the food production under adverse environment is practiced. Arid Land Research Center (ALRC), Tottori University is a sole research base of dryland science in Japan, and the advanced facilities and apparatus for research are assembled. Furthermore, ALRC has overseas and a strong network and is also doing research using an overseas examination cultivated land.

Now, we are performing joint researches with International Center for Dryland Agriculture (ICARDA, Morocco), Sudan Agricultural Research Corporation, Northwest A&F University, China, Lanzhou University, etc. In addition, we are also involved in the research on agricultural revival of Afghanistan.

I hope students who are interested in researches using advanced plant molecular biology, genetic engineering, and chromosomal engineering techniques and who want to study crop production drought and salinity tolerance in experimental fields of drylands oversea to join our laboratory.
