Research Summary

In the last six years, we researched the water and sediment balance of Lake Tana basin in Ethiopia which is the most important basin in terms of food production and source of water for the lake and the famous Blue Nile River. We established 17 monitoring stations on 7 major rivers entering the lake to estimate discharge and sediment. The water balance was done by the considering the water abstracting extensive floodplains surrounding the lake (senario 2) and without it (scenario 1). The findings are presented in the Figure (sediment balance) and the table (water balance)
