The First Workshop of Alliance fore "Global Center of Excellence in Dryland Sciences" was held

On July 28, 2007, this center's base program, “Global Center of Excellence for Dryland Science” which was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Global COE Program (formed in fiscal 2007), held its first workshop.

In order to achieve one of the goals of this base, “The Formation of a Global Network: Establishment of a ‘Global CEO’ by establishing a global network and links to national networks,” the president of Tottori University, Dr. Takayuki Nose, and the institute head and head of promotion of both the Desert Research Institute (DRI: America, Nepal) and the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA: Syria, Aleppo) attended and discussed future project plans and exchanged opinions.

In the meeting, Dr. Tsunekawa, the center head, explained the outline of this program, and then the activity schedule of each research topic was presented, and a lively discussion held. In addition, the heads of both the DRI and ICARDA offered to actively cooperate with Tottori University to achieve one of the goals of this program, “the development of human resources that are accepted by the world.”We truly hope that all students interested in the fields of dry land science and the prevention of desertification will do research with us and researchers from around the world at Tottori University.
