Recent situation of the use of wild species for wheat breeding at
CIMMYT: very promising sources for drought improvement and breeding.

| Brief contents | In the last one-two years, our views for alien translocation (of wheat wild species) for wheat breeding has been completely changed due to its contribution for wheat breeding. The one example is 2NS translocation from Aegilops ventricosa which is not only very effective for new wheat blast disease but also for anther disease resistance and grain yield. Synthetic derivatives has been also cultivated may hectors of wheat field world wide. Recently, our program has added some promising data that synthetic derivatives and a few alien translocations have showed better performance in drought tolerance. |
